Reviews
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆A nice motel located in the heart of Picton, with a great view of the harbour. After experiencing some problems using their online booking system last year (see original review below), my wife and I were finally able to get a chance to stay at the Picton Harbour Inn. [In the interest of disclosure, our stay was compensated this year, due to last year's mix-up.] They seem to have sorted out the issue they were having with their online booking system, which I was assured was a unique circumstance that arose due to a block booking made by the Cheese Festival. Check-in went smoothly, and the woman working the front desk was nice. As the name implies, the inn is right on the harbour, with a beautiful view from the room. Due to recent historic levels of rainfall, the harbour was pretty severely flooded, but still beautiful. Due also to ongoing renovations, we didn't have access to our room's balcony (which faces the harbour), but it's good to see that money is being put into maintaining and updating the look of the place. Speaking of updating the look, our room appeared to have been recently renovated, which was nice. The bathroom had new tile floors and a brand new shower, sink and toilet. The room itself looked refreshed with new flooring, furniture and paint finishes. Despite the name, the layout is much closer to a motel than an inn. The potential drawback here is that the rooms are surrounded by parking lots on both sides, and it can get quite noisy during the times of the day where everyone is arriving or leaving. The Lighthouse Restaurant, which is operated by the owners of the inn, is conveniently located in the same building, and the food there is quite good. Overall, this is a good place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Picton, within walking distance to most of the important downtown locations. We look forward to returning next year. === Original review: I had been looking forward to my stay since booking my room back in January. Unfortunately, they appear to have over-booked for the weekend of the cheese festival. I learned this when I was contacted by the manager the weekend before my stay, informing me that there was an "error" with their booking system and did not have a room for me. If this truly was an error with their system, they had five months to correct it and did absolutely nothing. To their credit, they successfully found me alternate arrangements at a nearby motel. However, we were no longer within walking distance of downtown Picton, and these alternate arrangements didn't lessen the stress of having to scramble around for a last minute hotel room during peak season. I don't think I will trust this place with my room booking again. Note: Shortly after leaving this review, I was contacted by the owner of the inn, who apologized and explained the situation to me in more detail. He explained the nature of the error with their booking system and assured me that overbooking is not a common practice. He offered both a refund for my troubles, and a complimentary stay in the future. It's unfortunate that it took leaving this review to escalate the problem beyond the manager to somebody who could attempt to fix the situation, and while this doesn't change the negative experience from my (attempted) stay, it is at least good to know that somebody took the time to try and make up for the bad experience. Hopefully, I will be able to return in the near future and actually get to experience what the Picton Harbour Inn has to offer.By Mitchell Gerskup, June 13, 2017
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Great place for a family stroll in season along the docks to look at the fish and boats. I stayed at the Inn a few years ago for a wedding in the area and the rooms were comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. Good parking situation. Beautiful location.By Chris Selke, April 12, 2017
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Visited the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was very busy and the servers did an excellent job keeping up. It's an all day breakfast diner type menu and the food comes out of the kitchen consistently good, fresh and hot.By Lynne Underhill, January 26, 2017
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆We arrived after a long day driving we were delighted to be so warmly welcomed and to see rooms clean and tidy. The manager couldn't have been more obliging making our stay so welcome. Well presented with comfy beds a nice kitchen lounge and our own little garden. The breakfast is fantastic and the location is great for access to the high street. All the staff were very friendly and thanks for looking after us!By Thomas Houghton, December 14, 2016
